Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in The Dramaworkshop, the lab for new play development at Palm Beach Dramaworks.

Please Note: The Dramaworkshop accepts play submissions from agents only. Unsolicited scripts will not be considered.

Guidelines:

Our tagline is “Theatre to think about.”

We are known for staging lavish productions of classic American plays and seek new, full-length scripts that fit this model and that have not yet been published or produced.

We are interested in compelling, story-driven plays with engaging characters and relationships that challenge our audience to wrestle with the universal questions of the human experience. Thoughtful comedies are also welcome.

We prefer small cast shows – 2 to 8 characters is ideal, give or take.

Story over spectacle! Shows with unit sets or flexible staging of multiple locations on a single footprint are preferred. Scripts that require extensive projections to set the scene or further the plot are not recommended.

Please ensure that your script includes the following:

  • A brief synopsis (2-3 paragraphs)
  • A cast breakdown (including the specific number of actors, double-casting requirements, etc.)
  • A brief description of scenic requirements (unit set, multiple locations, use of projections, etc.)
  • A brief bio/resume of the writer (only seen by administrative staff, not by readers)

Due to the number of play submissions, feedback will not be provided. Please do not contact the theatre to inquire as to the status of your submission. You will be notified if your play is being considered for the next step in our development process.

Thank you again for your interest and for sharing your work with us!
