First-Ever ‘Shelly Award’ given to Theater Impresario Shelly Gross Even the jaded regulars on West Palm’s busy Clematis Street were rubbing necking to get a glimpse of the elegant party goers entering the “It’s De-lightful, It’s De-licious, It’s De-lovely! ” benefit for West Palm Beach’s only professional theater company, Palm Beach Dramaworks (on Wednesday, March 26th). Close to one hundred of Palm Beach’s veteran theatre patrons paraded by a handsome regiment of white-tie clad greeters to enter the cocktail reception and dinner by Ann Z Caterers with sophisticated "1920's art deco" décor by Sutka Productions International, Inc. at the downtown hot spot "Main Street" at 416 Clematis. Entertainment was provided by South Florida’s ever popular Bob Hoose And His fabulous trio. Mayor Lois Frankel gave theatre impresario Shelly Gross the first "Shelly Award"—a new award to be given annually to a dedicated person in the community who has made an extraordinary commitment to developing and supporting the theatre community in South Florida. The evening which raised over $45,000 was attended by: Mayor Lois Frankel, City Commissioner Jeri Muoio, Bev & Herb Myers, Margaret & Jerry Vento, Susan Bloom, Steve Caras, Jane & Bernard Perry, Susan Lehrman Blank, Lee Bell, Linda & Don Silpe Harriett Eckstein, Elfriede Grevendick, theater veteran Shelly Gross and his wife Joan, Prisicilla Heublein, Sid Lesowitz, Jean Kanders, Virginia Sand, and Selma & Joe Sitrick. Dramaworks Producing Artistic Director, Bill Hayes, Dramaworks’ Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl and Resident Director J. Barry Lewis rubbed shoulders with the theater’s Chairman of Board Mark Perlberg and his wife Diane along with the theatre’s Company Manager Nanique Gheridian.
