First Shelly Award given at Palm Beach Dramaworks benefit
Nearly 100 supporters of Palm Beach Dramaworks attended the "It's De-lightful, It's De-licious, It's De-lovely! " benefit for the professional theater company in West Palm Beach. White-tie clad greeters met guests at the March 26 cocktail reception and dinner by Ann Z Caterers at Main Street, 416 Clematis St. A 1920s art deco decor was created by Sutka Productions International. Entertainment was by Bob Hoose and his trio. Mayor Lois Frankel gave theater impresario Shelly Gross the Shelly Award — a new award to be given annually to a person who has made an extraordinary commitment to developing and supporting South Florida theater. Among those attending were West Palm Beach City Commissioner Jeri Muoio, Bev and Herb Myers, Margaret and Jerry Vento, Susan Bloom, Jane and Bernard Perry, Susan Lehrman Blank, Lee Bell, Linda and Don Silpe, Harriett Eckstein, Elfriede Grevendick, Joan Gross, Jean Kanders, Virginia Sand, and Selma and Joe Sitrick. Also: producing artistic director Bill Hayes, managing director Sue Ellen Beryl and resident director J. Barry Lewis, theater chairman of the board Mark Perlberg and his wife, Diane, and theater company manager Nanique Gheridian. The event raised more than $45,000.
